Dear all fellow Padfone owners,

I managed to break the lower half of the screen yesterday. The screen still works, the "hardkeys" on the bottom lights up, but no touch inputs are recognized in the broken area.

Therefore I went ahead and ordered a replacement screen which should be here within a week. The only problem I have is that I am unable to find a tutorial/manual or even a quick description of how to separate the old screen from the phone.

Someone must have replaced the screen on this phone?

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Hey, see this link for the digitizer and you can ask the seller for other parts.

Now you'll need someone with some technical skills for the replacement!

Still anyone who has changed the digitizer for PFI??
Any advices?
My dad managed to drop my pfi on a concrete floor and the digitizer smashed into pieces. I ordered new one from chine but theres still no tutorial how to do it. Well I quess i'll have to open it with an axe...

Nope, don't do it like this.

Use a rigid tool (for example, a flat screwdriver) and insert it between the screen and the back cover. Lift carefully (but use a little force, it doesn't come easily), it's held in place with a kind of small hooks, there's no screw to remove before opening it.

When you've done it on the whole perimeter of the phone, it'll eventually come off. You'll notice the motherboard and everything else is screwed to the screen, not to the back cover. So you'll need to have small screwdrivers to unscrew all and screw it to your new screen.

I had everything out but managed to break the LCD screen while trying to separate it from the broken screen.

Ended up with a nexus 5 and I haven't missed the padfone for one second.

Oh. ****. Seems like the lcd is preetty fragile then :/ Gotta be ultra carefull when opening it!

Now its a proven fact. It is impossible to replace the digitizer to this phone.
It is glued to the lcd screen which is about 1mm thick.
It is IMPOSSIBLE to separate them from eachother.
I believe it is obvious that I too managed to break the lcd trying to separate them.
I have hard time to believe that someones actually done this job. Pics or it didnt happen!
If you have broken digitizer on your PFI just toss it in garbage can. It's useless now if you dont wanna pay 150$ for the lcd&digitizer combo. Do not even try to replace only the digitizer...

Ok so I decided to take it apart myself, I found some pics on a chinese facebook page to guide me a little bit (yes, I took my researches very far ^^), here are the pictures of what I ended up with. It's fairly easy actually, just pop the black bracket that holds the whole assembly, then a few screws and connectors to take off. The screen was dead anyway, so I didn't care to shatter it to take it off. Now I just need to order a new one (found one on Aliexpress that looks legit for 117$) and install it. I hope it'll work, I'll keep you updated
