I face a few challenges when updating the rom. It took me the whole day to get it sorted out and I would really like to share my experience so that hoping you guys will face less trouble. Firstly, it's a really new experience and the UI was a sight to behold. Not too fancy but not that bad.. As per the norm, I would do a back up and transfer all my important things like pictures and documents. The upgrade will do a total clean up so please please please transfer all files first. I was so confident and I lost all my back ups..
Tips before Flashing UPDATE Apps - Titanium Back up Phones, Contacts, SMS and Call Logs - SMS Backup and Restore Whatsapp - Back Up On its own This applies to those with recovery - Recovery Mode and back up ROM. Once All done, boot up, and transfer all files to PC - as a backup. I actually copied all storage over hehehe..
UPGRADING TIME Download the Update accordingly, please ensure you use the correct SKU accordingly (WWE use WWE Starhub use Starhub etc..) Place it on the root of SDCARD. IMPORTANT - PLEASE MAKE SURE YOU UNZIP AND PLACE THE OTA FILE ONLY NOT THE ENTIRE ZIP After ensuring that all Back up done, reboot to recovery. The only time I managed is that I did a FACTORY RESET and wipe cache and Dalvik. After that I boot up, and it will come to a welcome screen, the old one as if you just flashed JB. If your OTA file is correct, it will prompt OTA file found, upgrade? Click on yes and it will do it on its own. The flashing can be quite long and it will reboot and WALLAH, here comes Kit Kat!!
You will lost your custom recovery as it will be defaulted to Android's original and you will also not be rooted (lost root)
[color][b]Here's what I have taken from Kucza's post for rooting - Thank you mate :
Rooting instruction:
After successfully update to KitKat go to Settings -> About -> Software information -> tap 5 times on Build number
Download TWRP recovery image from here to the Minimal ADB and Fastboot installed folder. (For me last working TWRP image is openrecovery-twrp-2.6.3.0-A68.img. All above flashed images have blurred appearance of recovery)
Change image name of the recovery from example openrecovery-twrp-2.6.3.0-A68.img to recovery.img
Connect You Padfone 2 to the PC. Run Minimal ADB and Fastboot and type: adb reboot bootloader
After rebooted device You will see "Fastboot", then type: fastboot flash recovery recovery.img
Type: fastboot reboot to reboot device.
After reboot download TWRP installable ZIP from here and put it into storage of the device.
Turn off PadFone 2
Enter to recovery (Press and hold Power + Volume down buttons)
Vol down to choose "Enter recovery" press power button
1. Check SW version of your PadFone2 2. Download PadFone Firmware: V11.8.3.3 Only for Your SKU and Update version of SOP (From “Manual” Item)
※Firmware update cannot do * SKU conversion* and downgrade version. Wrong SKU may cause update failure, You can only update your SW version on the Same SKU *How to check SW version of your PadFone2? Path: [Settings]-->[About PadFone]-->Build number Example: You should be able to see the build number TW_PadFone-11.X.X.X, where “TW” means SKU.
PS: Due to this Android 4.4 upgrade would reset your device, please do refer the upgrade SOP to backup your personal data.
