Greetings all! I've tried to read up about it but cant find a clear answer: Is the hardware inside the same in no matter where I buy my padfone 2?
Im currently in Thailand and found a Padfone 2 at ITCity. Howevet it does not state any 4g frequncies or LTE. I dont know which firmwate it uses. However I live in Sweden and want bring one home.
If I buy a Thai Padfone 2,is it possible to load it with the wwe firmware and get the 4g, that is, same version as beeing sold in Sweden?
From all reports, the hardware is identical and the firmware is almost identical, at least where it counts. This thread discusses this precise topic, and gives insight into effectively changing SKUs.
The only caveat is that if you're changing to or from the TW firmware, you'll need to flash twice as the TW firmware uses different partitioning (to accommodate the included Garmin navigation software).
I haven't tried it myself so can't give a first-hand account, but hopefully someone who's done it will add their experiences to this thread.
Thank you for your reply! according to the Thai datasheet at asus.com.th (http://event.asus.com/th/2013/productguide/PGM012013/ProductGuideJan2013.pdf) it should be a wwe version. (A68-1a220wwe) However the sheet only states WCDMA 900/2100. Does this mean there are no LTE on this model, which goes against the one hardware for all regions theory, or do they just dont bother to write it out in the Thai datasheet where no LTE operatirs are available? ?
Up to now, no sign around the world indicating different HW for different regions. But a 100% reliable answer can be given only from ASUS. Try to ask directly to MarshallR which is an ASUS "insider"......

I would say the second part would be true; if there are no LTE operators in that market, it's pointless for them to advertise it.
The absolute most certain way is if you can get your hands on a demo unit, go into the settings;
Settings->More->Mobile Networks->Network Mode
In that section, I have the following options available;
LTE/GSM/WCDMA auto
WCDMA only
GSM only
GSM/WCDMA auto
The presence of the first option in the list will confirm conclusively that the device is LTE-capable.
Hi, i just bought an padfone 2 from Thailand (bought it at the IT shopping center at Siam Square, second floor, 64GB for app. 29.000 Thai Baht) and i can confirm that the four options above are all present in my padfone.
