So there have been a lot of reports about Padfone 2's not booting up...
I've locked all the separate topics, and created this sticky thread to make everything clear...
Solution if your Padfone 2 won't boot: Returning it to Asus and claiming your warranty seems to be the only solution, please correct me if I'm wrong...
Hi everyone, the situation is bad, like everyone else, my padfone heat up and won't boot weeks ago, I sent it to Asus 2 weeks ago, I got it back a few days ago, Asus service center changed the main board and updated the firmware, On the 1 day, it won't turn on 3 time and take about 10 minutes before it can turn on, next day it won't turn on 6 times and the last time, it takes half an hour to switch on, From the battery status, the battery charge drop to zero. When it recover 10% of the charge is gone every time it freezes. Now the phone is dead, I have sent it back to Asus service center, There are a few ppl with dead new padfone 2 in the queue. Let hope Asus knows what wrong with the phone.

I too just received my padfone 2 back from Asus Saudi. Surpised me because yesterday when I called they said it was waiting for part from TW and normally parts arrived on Wed so I should checked again on Saturday. Today the courier company called me and said they had my phone. My guess was the phone was sent back to TW for repair coz I know they do not open on Thu (Thu n Fri are weekend in Saudi).
Anyway what suprised me more is the firmware or lack of it! Seems my phone is running stock android ICS. When I switched it on there is no familiar Asus logo with the circle running rather there were some command runnings like the old DOS computer plus the word ANDROID came up, then it booted up. The UI is rather strange. I could not find any familiar stock Asus apps.
When I went to about phone this is what I found:
Android Version : 4.0.4 Baseband : F.2.8.13.P3-A68_1035 Kennel version : 3.0.21-g8e43d84 Build number : OPEN_Padfon-userdebug 4.0.4 IMM761; OPEN_Padone-9.7.1.33-20121121-F test-keys
On top of it at the bottom of the screen I can see 3 additional softkeys similar to the softkeys on the phone itself. In some cases I can use it...
Could someone tell me what the heck the above is all about? How can I install back the latest firmware? I will call Asus Saudi on Saturday and ask them about this. Most likely I have to resend to them again..
I am also concerned about the quoted issue above..coz I also faced similar thing when I switched the phone and inserted the simcard it booted up but kept running. then I removed the simcard and rebooted again it was ok..tested the phone with simcard I can make a call...

Just to add I found two Asus apps, Asus Device Filter v1.4 and AsusLogTool_E_V1.31.0.. opening the second one I saw so many sub menus..it is like the app to check the device..for example Capture Log to MTP, QPST Downloadmode setup etc
Hi mikepronin, I sent it to Asus Singapore. While testing the new board and firmware, the phone doesn't get warm when I surf the web and play 3d games. With the old board and firmware, it get very warm until I can't hold it.
I've sent my TW padfone 2 to the support center in Sydney and 2 weeks ago and they 3 days ago they had received the parts(motherboard) and are repairing it right now.
@spokywhite did ASUS say anything about how it is broken again even after the repairs? Did they give you like some kind of temporary warranty? Please give us an update regarding your condition.
I believe the notice ASUS Taiwan released a while back really meant that their latest firmware triggered a fault in the hardware which means that it is their fault. Is there any way we could negotiate or persuade our respective local ASUS support center to confess that it is really their fault so that they would give the free replacement units or parts or anything that would solve the problem without us paying a quarter price of the phone for the repairs?
my padfone still in ASUS Center and not yet repaired because i'm still thinking the cost for repairing is $280. I'm really afraid that it will dead again after that like in spokywhite cases.
I request for a replacement from Asus but they declined. I requested from the telco, Starhub. They push the problem back to Asus. Without a 4G phone are they going to charge me for the services, Starhub customer service claim that the padfone 2 do not have 4G! I sign up for 4G and it stated in their website. I believe the telco customer service lied. The telco abandon me. Asus is working on the problem. There are user with a good padfone 2. I got a lemon.
I have collected my padfone2 from Asus service center. It took only 1 day to fix it, they changed the vibrator and the charging port. It`s good. Let hope it lasts.
ASUS Sydney just contacted me and they said that the repairs are done and that they are currently doing final tests. They also gave some 20% discount for reasons unknown. They also gave me a 3 months warranty if the repair failed to solve the problem.
I'll give an update once I've received and tested the phone myself.
I'm very dissapointed with ASUS support. I've bought my Padfone 2 while vacation in Thailand and now expiriencing the subj problem I can't make no repair nor replacement in Russia where I live. Ok, I understand all the stuff with local warranty, but Russian ASUS devision can't give me any advice how can I perform repair and replacement in local service center (Thai in my case) instead of: "Go to Thailand and bring it to service center itself".
It is very strange to hear such stuff from ASUS. Especially along with my experience of repair of HTC which also can't be reapaired in Russia by local warranty reasons. That time I conntacted to HTC online support and they arranged all the stuff in 20 minutes:filled in some forms and just asked me to send my phone by post to one of europe HTC service centers. In 3 weeks I got my repaired phone back.
I believe someday ASUS will have just one tenth of such support.
