I have read the posts regarding battery life by other people, and I am getting really confused about whether my phone is faulty or not.
I just received my PF2 two days ago, and for those 2 days, the battery (without docking to the pad or charging in the middle) died after about 4~5 hours of intensive use.
To explain my meaning of 'intensive use', I will further describe my phone usage for those two days.
for day 1: The phone was not connected to a mobile service since I was planning on getting it connected on the same day afternoon. yet, I did have the mobile data turned on throughout the day until I finally signed up for LTE service sometime around 11:00 AM. When I took the phone off the cable at 7:50 AM (I know the exact time since that is always when I leave my house for work), it was charged to 94%. At 11:00 AM, it had around 50% of battery left. Yes, I was constantly fiddling with it, changing APN settings and what not, and I also had the screen at 50% brightness with live background turned on. After 11:00 AM, I continued to download from playstore, mess with settings, and etc., until the battery finally died at 2:00 PM.
for day 2: Well, today is day 2, and I left the house at 8:00 AM (the damn alarm on the phone didn't ring) with the battery at 100%. I read some e--book with the phone for about an hour while going to work, and turned the phone on around every 5~10 minutes to check instant messages until 11:40 AM. By this time, the battery was around 55~57%. After 11:40 AM, I played some game (Cytus, to be exact), played around with ringtones, etc., until 1:20 PM and the battery is now at 33%.
For the day 1, the reason the battery died could be because the phone was constantly searching for mobile connection, the screen brightness, and live background.
But for day 2, I had the phone at minimum brightness, had the live background turned off, and did not use the phone as much as the day 1.
Is this normal? From the specs, PF2 has a battery size of 2150mAh, but this thing is lasting about the same as my old phone, the Optimus Q, and I had used that for nearly 2 years now. (not to mention the battery size on Optimus Q is 1350mAh.)
I really need a phone that could last a full day when used like the day 2 without charging in the middle, and was wondering whether it's just my PF2 that's lasting this long.
Mmmmh, for sure a 4,7" screen always ON with gaming and CPU+GPU massive usage, could kill any battery..... One test you could do to understand if it is a battery issue, is to leave the phone unused, I mean carry with you, but do not play games or mess with settings or other involving screen activity, just leaving it ON and look at how much battery it drains in a day.....

I just did this after I left the above post. The remaining battery at 6:00 PM is 2 %, Starting at 33% at 2:00 PM, Through the whole time,I occasionally turned on the screen to check for messages(less than 20 times), and did nothing else.
I don't understand how you could use the phone without charging for 2 whole days, like some people have said.
I believe I can say you have a battery issue. Mine in same condition of usage (some mails, messages, two or three phone calls, some look around at settings) at the end of the day has about 50/60% charge still available. I do not use any kind of software optimizing battery life, only ASUS smart saving settings.
Do you see anything suspicious in the detailed battery information screen (where you can see how much battery is used by every app)? Maybe there is a specific app causing this battery drain...
As a last resort, try a factory reset. (yeah, I know, lame, but you never know).

nope...the info screen says that 50% of the battery use was on display, and 25% on standby. (the other 25% on games and other things that I messed around with.)
On other note, the 2% battery life at 6:00 PM actually lasted until sometime after 9:00 PM. (I didn't touch the phone at all since I thought it was already dead.)
strange...I REALLY don't want to factory reset the phone damn it..
Message was editted at 04:52PM:
I went back to my battery info and tried to figure out what was going on, and saw this.
Mobile Network Signal Wi-Fi Phone Turned on(probably means when the phone was active, i.e. push msgs) Screen Turned on Charging
The red boxes are where my battery had a steep drop. The First two boxes to the left seems to be when I was reading some e-book in the morning and when I was playing some game.
But other two red boxes to the right...I have no idea.
Battery life are allways an issue an allways variable because users use their devices so differently and have different kinds of apps installed. My battery lasts 2 days with normal usage, of which there are a litle over 4 hours screen on time. Even with more heavy usage I would struggle to kill my battery as fast as you do. None of my many other smartphones, android or iphones, last as long as my Padfone.
Even with your heavy usage, it sounds to me like something is not right - you may have some kind of app installed which isnt behaving properly (some app that may not have been updated to work correct with jelly bean) and is throttling cpu and battery life in the background, when it should be in a wait state or closed state.
If I was you I would definately start by doing a factory reset, and then run the phone a couple of days with only the most essential apps installed, preferably none other than those default on the phone to check how battery life is.
Mine has been turned on since this morning, it has now been running 12 hours 23 minuttes, I havent used it much during the day (was busy at work), but have checked mail a couple of times, sms, taken a few photos, read the local news - totally my screen has been turned on for about 15 minuttes - and status is now at 92% battery left.
Heavy gaming with full cpu load and screen turned on do use alot of battery, but still.
Yoyo, i see your completely new user.. Don't forget these batterys need some charges before they function fully... Also - whenever you used your phone for games, internet etc. and your gonna leave it on standby - Go to the quicktask widg and press "close all" - My padfone under rather heavy use lasts 2 days. I had battery issues at my early padfone days, but I havent experienced them since; 1) battery was charged extensively for a few times 2) factory reset due to some software failing. Enjoy
Idd, searching for signals can be a deal breaker.. But bro where are you from if you have to pay ASUS 100$ to look it over?? It's a brand new phone, I don't know many places in the world where you are not guaranteed a repair when the device is unharmed and brand new.

I live in Korea, and got mine from Taiwan through an import shop because it wasn't released in my country. So, I have a 1 yr warranty on the product in Taiwan only, even though there IS an ASUS a/s center nearby..(this is actually ridiculous.)
Whats more, we have a law which says that product with 'a battery inside' cannot be shipped using regular international airmail, so I have to send it using Fedex..hence the extra $100, excluding the repair fees
BTW, I found that the ASUS smart battery savings widget actually kills mobile connection when the phone goes to sleep..
To give you more ref, with a normal phone use, I mean two phone calls per hour, some sms, some whatsapp, some look around, it drains 2% battery per hour. Of course this is strongly affected by apps running in background.....
Correct, ASUS smart saving kills mobile data while sleeping, but can be configured per application also, so you can decide behavior case by case.
Hello, I'm new here in this forum but I have been using smartphones and some gadgets that use battery for quite some time already. I had my PF2 last December 18 but was only able to use it January 12.
Anyway, with regards to battery charging, I believe PadFone 2 already has the feature of automatically diverting power source from battery to charger when the PF2 battery is fully charged - just like in some modern Asus notebooks. I wish I could remember the forum where I have read about Li batteries. But basically, they said that Li batts should not be drained to 0%, and not to be stored at 100% for a long time. If you wish to store Li batteries, store it at ~60% charge.
With regards to your PF2 power consumption, aside from the mentioned background applications that use some of the battery juice, there is a high chance that your battery is being drained by your low signal as any phone would use more power as the signal gets lower. Do you use LTE filtering to filter phone signal? I believe it should be in Auto mode if you wish to use LTE mode (and use 2G only if you want to extend battery life). As of any smartphones I have used, leaving the phone connected to 2G/3G/LTE network will consume more battery compared to a phone that has no 3g/4g connectivity. So it is up to you on how to balance the use of 3g data connection with batt life. As for my PF2, it was fully charged in Dec 18, left it in sleep mode and turned it off about 3 days later. Turned it back on (still without a sim) January 10 with 94% battery. Left it at Standby for 2 days and only use it for exploring settings and some apps that came with it. Until that point, I still have not charged the phone (that's a lot of days after being fully charged). But when I inserted the microSim with the data always on and the phone, most of the time located in a low-signal area, I have my PF2 charge once a day. That's with a lot of background apps running, doing facebook messaging, some calls and sms, using suppernote, and some web surfing.
To me when you have a smartphone be prepared to deal with battery issues. Gone are the days when your old Nokia can last week before the next charging! With smartphone you have apps that run in the background draining the battery. What more once you start surfing the internet the battery will drain faster. Android phones are known not having a long standby batery compared to iPhone. And this is where iPhone excels as their apps are designed for low power consumption. I was an iPhone user before jumping to PF2 and based on my normal usage the battery on PF2 drains faster. With iPhone if you play musics the battery consumption hardly move compared to PF2! So I just live with it and have with me usb cable in the office for charging. I am even thinking of getting power pack as standby as my family membes use 2 iphones and 2 android. Lucky for me the PF2 is a private device where all calls are made from my other android phone Sony Xperia U and thus the battery on this Sony can last longer something that is very useful to ensure I can be contacted.
My experience with iPhone batteries duration is that I do not arrive at same day evening without charging, while with PF2 I arrive easily at day after noon not charging. Same company use.
