First I want to say I have been following this forum since I bought my Padfone2 and you guys helped me a lot with some of the issues me and I gues most of us had so thanks!
Now to the problem. Like everybody I also had dust im camera and I opened the phone couple of times in order to clean it. Last time it was may be 5-6 months ago and then I actually put a bit of paper glue on the edges in order to seal the gaps btween the glass and the body of the lense. After that I had no problems with dust whatsoever... But one week ago I took the phone for a regualar picture and I couldn't get it to focus! After I played a bit I saw that close objects are fine but the moment you pick the phone for panoramic view or something more than 50-60sm the image goes blurry and there's no focus. Even after tapping the screen the sqare sometimes goes green but the focus is still off. Now the first thing I did is cleen the lense, no change.. Second I cleared the cash and temp files of the Camera app, nothing.. After, reset the camera settings, nothing..
I wrote to asus support and offcource the first thing they recommended is factory reset! Now, I will not do it right away because I looked up the problem it internet and some other phones (samsoung s5, motorolla droid and htc one) have had the same issue and factory reset didn't help. My best hope is to wait for the kitkat update and hope the new firmware will fix it..
The thing I want to ask is if it sounds to you like a software or hardware problem?(Have in ming the pictures in close are still cristal..)
Phone cameras have lens inside moved by MEMS actuators. MEMS actuators are managed by software. I believe your problem is due to an HW issue not being able to position lens at infinite focus point. But before shipping unit back for repair, also a factory reset worth the try.....
Thank you for the info. I think it's exactly this as before the problem there was a faint sound every time I opened the camera(like opening a shutter, I guess this is the MEMS acturator), now there is no sound... But anyway I'll try the factory reset and wait for the kitkat update anyway. It's a pity because new camera is almost 100EUR more from asusparts.eu. Do you know if you void the warranty once you open the phone? *guess there's no need for this question*
