Padfone gets firmware upgrade to version 9.20.4.34
Author Marc Schattorie Tuesday 13 November 2012 - 16:18:38 Comments: 1190   printer friendly  create pdf of this news item
Asus has released a new firmware version for the first generation Padfone today. Our current CHT Padfones are now upgradable to version 9.20.4.34 (9.4.6).

There is currently no changelog available, so we can only post our own findings.

First of all, there is no Padfone Station upgrade to fix the issues from the previous Station update included.
The only change that we've noticed is that the power saving settings have been changed.

We've added the upgrade package to our firmwares page and we also updated the one time upgrade package which can be handy for rooters. The full firmware package however is not available yet.

If you found another change, or if you have any other comments about this upgrade, feel free to join us in this forum topic.

Update: The Facebook app is also working on our Padfones again.

Author Marc Schattorie Tuesday 06 November 2012 - 16:55:03 Comments: 3   printer friendly  create pdf of this news item
We got a tip from one of our visitors who ordered his Padfone 2 at an official Asus Point in Italy. He told us that the Padfone 2 will be shiiping in Italy on November 16.

Italy will currently only ship the 32GB Padfone 2, 32GB Padfone 2 + Padfone 2 Station and the 64GB Padfone 2 + Padfone 2 Station. All models will be available in black only for now, there is no confirmation about the white models yet.

As soon as we know more about Italy, or any other country in the world we will update you on it, and also maintain a list of where to buy the Padfone 2 here.

Already a new firmware version for the Asus Padfone 2
Author Marc Schattorie Saturday 03 November 2012 - 18:31:58 Comments: 1   printer friendly  create pdf of this news item
We're very sorry for this late post, but Asus does not want to support this leading Padfone community, which means that we can't always be on top of the Padfone 2 like we do with the Padfone 1, but we will try our best!

On to the news. The Padfone 2 is now able to ugrade to firmware version 9.8.8.41(TW) or firmware version 9.8.8.40(CHT). As you can see, there are two different regions available for Taiwanese Padfone 2s, Taiwan and Chung Hwa Telecom (a large Taiwanese telecom provider).
Both versions have a minor difference in the version number, but both share the same changelog which you can read by clicking on "more...".

The firmware version can be downloaded from the official Asus website.

Update: We've also created a new Padfone 2 Firmwares (How To/Download) page to keep track of all the firmware upgrades for the Padfone 2.

Important Update: Minor Padfone Station firmware update
Author Marc Schattorie Friday 26 October 2012 - 06:54:11 Comments: 1878   printer friendly  create pdf of this news item
One of our members pointed out that there is a new Padfone Station firmware update available on the Asus website. You can find the APK file under the Utilities section.

It upgrades the Padfone Station firmware from version 35 to version 38, and it should improve the display quality for the Padfone Station.

Please take note!
When using the APK file, do not remove the Padfone from the Padfone Station, it will damage the Padfone if you do.
Also, make sure to update your Padfones firmware to V9.20..1.x or later.

Important Update:
Some people seem to have issues with this update, please take this in mind before you use this update!

Fancy designing the next Padfone?
Author ctys2ard Thursday 25 October 2012 - 17:15:13 Comments: 879   printer friendly  create pdf of this news item
So we have some brilliant thoughts about the next Padfone.

Now here's a challenge, we would like to see how good these engines look in a new chassis. Pictures always speaks more than words. We would like to call on creative people out there to take on this challenge! Design a Padfone of your own and submit your drawing, sketches or even a video to visualise how you want your future Padfones to look like to us. We will put it up on the news page and who knows, Asus might just pick up your design! Pack in those amazing specifications. Maybe a new colour? Bigger screen ratio? Just don't forget the keyboard dock.

All designs can be submitted to design©padfoneclub.com. Make sure you include a description of your designs and contact details too. You are allowed to stamp your initials across the designs for copyright purposes, as long as we all can see that amazing design of yours.

And here's a white keyboard dock to kick start things:

Free Battery Pack for Padfone 2
Author ctys2ard Monday 22 October 2012 - 18:45:21 Comments: 3   printer friendly  create pdf of this news item

Asus Taiwan has just announced that customers who order their Padfone from Taiwan (through official Telcos such as Chung Hwa Telcom) before 18th November will get a special battery pack for free.

There is minimal information that we know of the battery pack. It's branded Mega King and sports a 6600 mAh as depicted. It's available in white. The RRP is at NTD 1990 or about €50.

Knowing that the Asus Padfone 2 has no removable cover/battery, this could well be a good replacement for people who are always on the move. Asus really knows how to pull the trick with its customers. Well, almost, except that there is no keyboard dock for Padfone 2 .

No keyboard dock possible for the Asus Padfone 2
Author Marc Schattorie Monday 22 October 2012 - 06:34:23 Comments: 1478   printer friendly  create pdf of this news item
There is a lot of speculation, is the Padfone 2 going to get a Station Dock or not?

According to Asus Taiwan it is not possible to make a keyboard dock for the Padfone 2. But "they will take our advice to the next Padfone".

The Padfone 2 launch has been welcomed with mixed feeling, some disappointed, some finding just about the perfect phone-tablet combo for themselves. To heat up the excitement, ASUS Taiwan Facebook page is offering Memory Stick (presumably Asus branded) with the words "Padfone 2" imprinted on it.

However, this contest is open to Taiwan residents only. If you happened to be around the region, here's your chance to win an exclusive memory stick to show your support for the Padfone series.

Rules couldn't be easier. Simply post a reply to this link explaining the reason why Padfone 2 is appealing to you in 50 words. Contest runs from 19/10 to 21/10. Up to 3 winners will be selected.

Should other ASUS Facebook pages do something to promote Padfone 2 too? What do you think? Shout out in the comments!
